January 27, 2008 - MoSteel has been doing it this way for years.
Their boys are never the biggest, never the fastest, never the thickest
but yet somehow they always win. They win because they are the most
prepared. Going into the NIT at the Giants Stadium Bubble, the Panthers
were missing their big man and their big play guy, Nicky Athanasopoulos.
Coaches Jimmy and Eddie got concerned when they saw a couple of
teams that looked real good and real fast and real thick and everything
else that describes bigger more developed athletes. And to top it
off, the Panthers only practiced one time for this event. However,
four of the boys have been together since 2005. Yianni Gavalas,
Eddie Rosicgno, Anthony Libroia and Brian Kruger were on the first
Panther NFL National winning team that ended up going to Germany
as Team USA for the NFL World Games. Pablo Valdes has been with
the group since 2006. That is a long time, a lot of practices and
a lot of games together. It showed. Sprinkle in a couple of boys
that have been playing flag for a while – Nicholas Ziangas
and Nicholas Mancuso - the Panthers were able to play well and win
the 2008 NIT.
The Little Panthers did not do as well as their older counterparts.
They dominated pool play and the first round of the playoffs but
lost a tough game in the semi-finals 14-6. The younger Panther team
has not been together that long. The roster was only put together
three weeks before the NIT Tournament. Returning players Alec Zimmern,
Michael Rodriguez and Santiago Agosti anchor a team that has added
some quality players to the roster. |
